Classify and hierarchize scopes - example

Target:

The Regional scopes class is to be created. Within this class, different continents, countries and regions are to be defined as scope objects. For this purpose, the scope objects are to be sorted by affiliation and hierarchized by size.

Instruction:

  1. To define the class, create the Regional scope category in the Schema in the SystemAdministration

  2. Set the following settings in the Create category dialog:

  • Template: Scope [Locks and Permissions].

  • Inherit from template instead of copy

  1. Create the categories Country and Region

  2. Set the following settings in the Create category dialog:

  • Template: Regional scope

  • Inherit from template instead of copy

Note: Since inherited from the template, the Country and Region categories automatically have the Regional scope category as a parent category.

  1. Create the attribute Children in Regional scope

Tip: You can also copy and paste the Children attribute from another category. In this case, delete the already referenced and copied child objects from the attribute.

  2. Copy the Country and Region categories and paste them as a reference in the children of the Regional scope category:

  1. To create a continent at the first level of the hierarchy, select New | Sorted instances | Regional scope from the context menu of Sorted instances in the Regional scope category:

  1. Repeat step 7 for each continent to be created:

Note: By default, the sorted instances are named after the respective category. That means, in this example, the first-level instance is automatically named with the name of the Regional scope class.

  1. Rename all sorted instances with the label Regional scope. Use the name of the respective continents:

  1. To subordinate countries to the continents, select New | Country from the context menu of the sorted instance. Repeat the step for each continent:

  1. Rename the sorted instances:

  1. To subordinate regions to countries, select New | Region from the context menu of the sorted instance. Repeat the step for each country:

  1. Rename the sorted instances:

Result:

The hierarchy of scopes is observed during evaluation and displayed during selection:

Example: In the same way, you can define organizational units (sales, marketing, production, etc.) as organizational scopes. The scopes of the Regional scope and Organizational scope classes are then evaluated in a differentiated manner.
